We took Slider, our 16 foot beachcruising catamaran to the Narrows of Santa Rosa Sound, near Fort Walton Beach, Florida. There, in addition to a narrow channel, you an find a string of small sandy spoil islands along the Intracoastal, uninhabited, where camping is popular. Behind the islands are extensive lagoons, ideal for sailing shallow draft boats.
My two sons and I took Slider down the Sound to a little group of spoil islands between the Intracoastal Waterway and the wild, undeveloped barrier island. We spent the night on one of the islands.
We're sailing to Destin in Slider, the 16 foot beachcamping catamaran I designed and built. Winds are just under 10 knots, and we're moving at 5 to 5.5 knots. Comfy
We're returning from Destin in our little beachcruising cat Slider, after a couple hours spent catching bluefish down by the Coast Guard station. Eventually we were able to crack the sheets, and hit 7 knots.
