In 1964, former SS United States purser Jim Green returned to the ship as a passenger for a West Indies cruise along with his beloved wife Frieda. Here, set to the music of the ship's own orchestra, is a nostalgic journey back to 1964. This video also answers the trivia question: "Why were live turtles carried aboard the SS United States?" Hint: it wasn't for the soup! Enjoy!
This video is in memory of the glorious SS France, set to the song "France" by Jimmy Kennedy, performed by the Roger Wagner Chorale (written for the maiden voyage).
Enjoy these gorgeous full color home movies shot by a lucky couple who traveled on the SS France Eastbound, and the SS Liberte Westbound, here combined to suggest a mythical time when such a trip might have been possible. Bon Voyage!
Presented here are SS United States color home movies shot by crew member Dan Keating in 1960. This footage was generously provided by Dan's widow, Maureen, who wishes to keep her husband's legacy alive. Featuring shots both on deck and below, Dan's film takes us into the famous engine room of the ship as well as giving a glimpse into "party time" in the crew quarters. Enjoy!
