In 1980 gunmen held 26 people hostage at the Iranian embassy in London. After several days the SAS anti terrorist team went in and rescued the hostages and killed the gunmen. Notice how they all talked so posh on the TV in those days.
Baron Münchhausen's best known adventure was his ride on a cannon ball. Here we see him ride the ball and end up in the Pasha's palace. You may wonder how UFA got so many real black African extras in Germany in 1943. In fact, there was a small black community which was not percecuted (as the Jews were) as they were not seen as a threat. They were treated much worse by the Russians after 1945.
The baron is held by the Pasha but bets he can send his runner to get some Tokaji ( a very sweet wine) in an hour. He wins the bet. The scenes in the harem were amazing by 1943 standards.
Baron Münchhausen visits Venice at carnival time. Early Agfacolor was way ahead of its time. These scenes must have looked so great when they were first shown.
Münchhausen is challenged to a cuckoo duel in which the duellists fight in the dark and shout "cuckoo" and the other shoots in the direction of the other's voice.
Münchhausen has been having an affair with a beautiful peasant girl ( or so he thinks). After he is invited to dine at the palace he finds it is really Catherine the Great of Russia.
