Do you want or need the convenience and speed of a quality home digital photo printer with a small footprint? If so, then a dedicated 4X6″ digital photo printer may be the answer, and there are plenty of them from which to choose. These small printers turn your digital camera into a sort of “Polaroid” instant camera and work wonders for parties and get-togethers because of their portability. In fact there are several models that operate off a battery pack so they can be used anywhere. The drawback is that the per print cost is a bit on the high side but even so it’s about the same as most “instant” print kiosks but you have the convenience of printing when and where you want. Here are the latest compact Canon digital photo printers to get you started on your search. Take a camera with you whenever possible, and look around, you’ll find a picture somewhere. Can You Be Arrested For Using Your Digital Camera In Public?
With terrorist related news being broadcast almost non-stop on TV it’s easy to understand why there’s an increased alertness towards suspicious activity of any kind. But what is “suspicious activity”, and who decides what should, and shouldn’t be allowed. There have always been locations where photography is prohibited, such as art museums, because electronic flashes can, over a long period of time, harm the paintings, or so I’m told. Other reasons include copyright infringement, privacy and religious reasons, but now we have situations where threats to security are the reason given. Since 9/11 I’ve been hassled twice, once while taking pictures of a particularly attractive courtyard outside a small bank building, and again while on the roof of the New York New York Casino parking garage here in Las Vegas. The first incident brought out the bank manager, who was extremely nervous and not very eager to get close to me. He showed visible signs of relief when I explained why I was taking the pictures and gave him my business card. After a few minutes he looked around and agreed that the courtyard was nice and that he had no eye for art. I assured him that when I hit the Lottery I would make a large deposit in his institution. As for the Casino incident, which yielded the above photo, I was told, by a bicycle riding security guard, that taking pictures of the “towers” was forbidden, due to security reasons. I was then figuratively thrown off the roof. I’m not a lawyer but my rule of thumb is that if I’m on private property, such as the bank or casino, the owners make the rules. If they say go, I go, because they have the rights to allow or disallow any type of activity on their property, I don’t. Here’s a rundown of what’s going on in America, England, and a few other places with regards to photography and suspicious activity. This link takes you to a website that has a listing of photographer’s rights in America. A simple search on Google will bring up photographer’s rights in other countries. Gizmodogate
At the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show, Gizmodo blogger Richard Blakeley pulled a little prank: he used a TV-B-Gone remote control to turn off a whole bunch of TVs. It was a controversial stunt, even for the perennially snarky gadget blog because it blurred that sacred line between journalist and participant. Well, Rocketboom has an interview with Blakeley in which he defends his little act of sabotage: What do you think? Are bloggers allowed to cross the line which traditional journalists have (almost) always maintained? -Kent, Yahoo! video Team

Fringiest Friday
Hello Readers, Here we are, another Friday, another fringe-y film. When I look for content for Fringe Fridays, I dream of finding something as weird, funny, and well-animated as what I found today. Be warned, my friends, this one is weird. If you’re at all squeamish about bugs, blood, or marital melodrama, you shouldn’t watch it. Anyone still there? Good! The Ballad of Mary Slade I wish I knew more about the animator, Robin Fuller. But the film did win the prestigious Slamdance film Festival’s prize for animation. And it’s the perfect video for the day before Edgar Allen Poe’s birthday. -Kent, Yahoo! video Tea
