The Sound of Music (40th Anniversary Edition)

The Sound of music (40th Anniversary Edition) When Julie Andrews sang “The hills are alive with the sound of music” from an Austrian mountaintop in 1965, the most beloved movie musical was born. To be sure, the adaptation of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II’s Broadway hit has never been as universally acclaimed as, […]

Grind Workout: Hip Hop Aerobics
Grind Workout: Hip Hop Aerobics Customer Review: I miss old MTV workouts… Even though their Yoga and Pilates series videos are good, I miss the MTV hip-hop inspired cardio workouts! I wish they would make some new ones. I disagree with the reviewer that thought the instruction was poor. […]

The Year in Viral Advertising
According to the Wall Street Journal, Dove’s viral video sensation Eye of the Beholder was the top viral marketing campaign this year, with nearly 30 million views online. The journal just published its year end ‘Best of Ads, Worst of Ads’ list and the winners also included the likes of The Simpsons, a Cadbury ad, as well as ‘K-Fed the Insurance Salesman.’ Down at the other end, some of the big losers from the past 12 months included the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie and a snarky Dodge ad that showed a dog being electrocuted by an SUV. Check out the entire list here at the Wall Street Journal website, and to find out more about viral advertisements online, checkout Yahoo!’s own Contagious Viral videos of the Week: Also See: K-Fed ‘Life Comes at You Fast’ Cadbury’s Drumming Gorilla How does viral marketing affect you? Fringe Fridays: Two films
Welcome back to Fringe Fridays, our regular exploration of experimental film and video. Today I bring you two films that really highlight the importance of editing and original music. The first one, by Canadian filmmaker, James Morison is a short, existential exploration that I think is rather touching. If I Knew: Our next video is from a creator who says I don’t really consider myself to be a filmmaker per se. Jack Gray is a film composer who re-edited an old film to his own musical composition. Another Day in Paradise: Both these creators do such a good job of putting meaningful images together to just the right music. -Kent, Yahoo! video Team

Viral video 101
James Murray, the genius behind the popular Cooties PSA, teaches a class in New York City about the theory and production of viral videos. I thought this was pretty cool, so I asked him to describe the program: The class is a combination of theory and production. The first four weeks, I teach the students what makes a video go viral, how to write and produce professional content with the best chances of hitting online, how to turn online viral success into real world cash and opportunities, how to license videos, etc. The students bring new sketches in every week, and I choose 4 with the best chances of going viral. Then we produce the sketches, and launch them online. Cooties is just one of the videos that came out of the class. Murray is also behind the sketch comedy group The Tenderloins, whose work has graced the pages of Yahoo! video.-Kent, Yahoo! video Team
